“As a small business owner and consultant, I didn’t know if I could make the time commitment to participate in a cooperative preschool. But I’m so glad I did. Not only do I love the occasional break from my normal work routine to play with toddlers for a few hours, but through co-oping, I get a front row seat to observe my child’s early education and social development. I’ve witnessed my child’s play choices turn into academic interests and seen her navigate social interactions with increasing skill. I’ve seen her beam with pride when her mom is introduced as the helper for the day, and I’ve watched her classmates turn from peers into friends. And I know this kind of access will only be harder to come by the older she gets. A heartbreaking statistic is that parents spend 75% of the total time we will ever spend with our children by the time they reach age 12. I appreciate the option to have other family members take some of the co-op days and, of course, the ability to buy out those days I truly can’t spare. But with moments this precious, the cooperative model is a gift I didn’t know I needed – and one I’m so glad I can give to my child.”
